• After 24 months in FLOS.we need to make room for new newcomers!   If you have been a member in good standing for two years, volunteered for committees,  participated in FLOS events and activities regularly and attended our general members meetings, you will graduate with a brief ceremony during which you will be presented with a plant and a diploma  Maybe you would like to host a meeting!

Meetings are usually held once a month on a Saturday or Sunday morning.   Normally there is no meeting held in May, December or January. Upcoming Keiki Club events will be posted on flos.org and included in our newsletter.  An email will be sent approximately two weeks prior to a meeting as an invitation from the Chair Persons of the Keikis.  You will be required to RSVP and register if you plan to attend.  Then a day or two before the meeting another personal email will be sent confirming your attendance and containing all the pertinent information and exact location.Meetings will generally be in backyards or growing areas of society members.  There are other meetings which may be held at another location such as Flamingo Gardens or Together We Stand Farm. The host or presenter will share experiences with different varieties, potting and growing techniques, and other topics of interest to new orchid growers. There will be lots of time for questions and answers, viewing the owner’s plants and getting to know other Keikis as well as Board membes who may be attending.

At different meetings we may cover topics like:

• Dividing and repotting
• Mounting orchids
• Disease and insect control
• Light, water, and wind (environmental concerns)
• How to read a label
• Commonly grown orchid genera and species
• Native orchids
• Naturalizing orchids
• Sources of orchid information online
• How to build a personal collection
• Preparing a plant to show at a FLOS meeting or show

Signing Up

You’ll need to sign up in advance to come to Keiki Club events so we know how many folks are coming. Some private homes have limited parking and it may be necessary to cap the number of participants for any given event. The chair of the Keiki Club will keep sign-up lists for each event. Contact information will be available wherever the event descriptions and schedule are posted.If you sign up and cannot make it, please be courteous and let the chair know. Someone else might want to take your place.

Hosting

We hold Keiki Club meetings at members’ houses and growing areas. If you would like to volunteer to host a meeting just talk to the chair of the Keiki Club committee.
