Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society Meeting - January 11, 2010
Can you believe we are this lucky? Sheldon has never spoken in South Florida before, and perhaps this will be his first speaking event in the whole mainland. His topic will be 'Recent Trends in Cattleya Hybridizing', and since Carmela Orchids has been one of the very few orchid houses to produce new crosses in recent years, he is the person to speak. Our plant raffle table will be supplied by Carmela, and depending on how fast other boxes get unpacked he and Pearl (his wife) may also be selling plants at the meeting. At any rate we will still be able to buy their plants at the FLOS orchid show.

Sheldon has been part of Carmela since 1960 when the company was formed. According to his wife Pearl, one of their favorite things to do after selling at an eastern show is a stop-over rest and visit with two of their three children who live in Las Vegas. Could be that they drop a few high-hopes-coins at the casinos?

Hyla Levine from Green Barn Orchid Supply will present a basic orchid culture program with empahsis on repotting, fertilzing, and pest control.

We need members to come in around 6:20 to help set up the meeting room. Please come help out and you'll also have fun getting to know your fellow members. Thanks to the many people who stay at the end of the meeting and help put the room back in its pre-meeting condition. All of the help before and after the meeting makes this task quick and easy!
